Cars Vandalized - SECURITY STARTING TONIGHT inshaAllah

Unfortunately, many cars were vandalized outside the mosque last night. Security guards will be posted outside the mosque starting tonight inshaAllah to monitor the area and to facilitate parking.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manitoba/story/2012/07/27/mb-mosque-cars-damaged-winnipeg.html

So far, there is no reason to believe last night's vandalism was hate-related, but it is an unfortunate incident for the Muslim community and the West End neighbourhood in general. Thank you to those who have sent kind notes of friendship to our website.

"Friends: We just learned of the terrible act of vandalism that occurred last night. We hope and pray that this was not a hate crime because there is no room in our society for that type of intolerance."

Shelley Faintuch, Community Relations Director
Jewish Federation of Winnipeg

"On behalf of our organization I would like to convey our distress and concern about the hate-motivated harassment and vandalism that occurred last night outside Winnipeg Central Mosque. It is most disturbing that this happened during Ramadan, so close to Eid. The Jewish community has also been forced to implement safety measures to secure our community from hate motivated incidents during the upcoming High Holidays. When individuals and community institutions are targets of hate we all are victims. I offer our assistance in any possible way we can help."

Alan Yusim, B'nai Brith Canada
